Welcome to Aravans an open space for LGBTs

ARAVANS has been registered as a National Level organization registered under the Indian Trust Act bearing Registration Number: 2/2017 dated 16 March 2017, functioning at Virudhunagar District, Tamilnadu, India.

ARAVANS is working towards “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) empowerment”. But empowerment is a Vast subject, so,  ARAVANS concentrates on Socio, Economic, Cultural and Political empowerment of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) in Virudhunagar District.

Gender Free Village is one of the ARAVAN’s dreams where all the LGBTQI people will enjoy freedom, get quality education, access good health care, better living environment and discrimination free society along with a technology oriented Resource Center. In this resource center, they will be assisted with livelihood support, family orientation services, and legal services. It will be a common platform for revealing their own thinking, ideas, and skill proofing.

The LGBTQI community people will get integrated living standard by means of organic farming, Natural Resource Management, Eco-friendly housing, unity, solidarity and livelihood opportunities in our Gender Free Village.

Care and Support for elder LGBTs

Panjammal and Subbu

Panjammal and Subbu are living together and both of them are above 65 years old. They lived a poor and pity life for a prolonged period over 45 years. They are illiterate. In their life they faced sexual harassment, exploitation by the sexual partners, no support from parents, friends and relatives, discrimination in public places and work places. Read more

Restoration of rights of LGBTs

LGBT community

It is very pity that these TGs have no common or public place to meet each other and share their experience. During our interaction the general public and the passengers interrupted. They ridiculed, violated and harassed the TGs in bus stand itself without any sense of public place. The TGs in Aruppukkottai do not have general awareness on their rights. Read more

Create livelihood


Most of LGBTs are dependent on their families. Particularly vulnerable are young LGBTs who experience estrangement from family and friendship networks, harassment at school and invisibility which can lead in some cases to underachievement at school, school drop-out, poor health and homelessness. All the young LGBTs are doing dancing, begging, sexual work for their livelihood.
